INDIA 1st posting

I have dreaded doing this for a while but here we go. I have scanned in my drawings and I am ready to start. First i will tell you about our flight.Well... it is the longest I've ever been on the plane and first time out of Europe. The plane was huge and the size made me worry about how it stays up in the air. Really awful thoughts flew through my mind. The best thing on the flight was the little TV in front of me that i could choose what to watch and forget about my worries.
We flew from Heathrow to Mumbai and out of 6 poeple's bags only 2 arrived. We were sent from one place to another and kept getting stamps so we were hoping our bags would arrive the next day. It took about 2 days for them to send it to Goa and we went to pick them up. There were men standing infront of the airport with massive guns and they didn't want to let us in as we didn't have a ticket to fly away. Therefore it took a lot of convincing to get our bags. AHH... what joy it was to change clothes and brush my teeth:)
We were sent to Curlies ( a beach sack/bar) where we had all our meals in the beginning. It is an old hippie hang out where people still congregate in the evenings listening to trance. It gets a bit much when you cannot really talk and thumping sounds go through your scull.
Here is a drawing of the 2nd night at curlies and some of the things said in the first meeting about making a documentary.
I will try to post a drawing a day accompanied by a whimsical story from our doings in Goa.

Hey All,
I'm posting from an internet cafe in Anjuna, Goa. This is about SKA-63 film that was finished last year but Animate project wanted to interview me about the project and the process we went through to get a film out of it all. So here is the interview http://www.apengine.org/2009/09/greet-kallikorm-on-ska-63/.
Soon when we have internet a bit closer I can start posting images and photos about my stay and work here in Anjuna.

Sweet and Sound

This is all so wonderfully weird but I have been featured as a contributor online for a sound magazine called Sweet and Sound. You can read about me and my sound designer Roald's working relationship. I had to write this myself ( with Roald's help) and it is so odd talking about my own work in third person. Also you can watch "Jam" in all its glory. Don't be confused as it says Killikorm they promised to change it.
Please check them out at: http://sweetandsound.co.uk/contributions.html

Cosy Pub at a Rainy Day

I got up at 6 and spent time waiting in rain at the Indian Visa Center so I needed to do something to cheer me up. I didn't get my visa this time and have to return again. Here is the colored version of the two sketches that I had posted earlier. Let me know what you think!

Here is my postcard for my friend Davina who offers massage services at work. We wanted it to be more of eye catching image than those generic naked women with a glow photos. I really enjoyed making it and I think I want to do some more illustration jobs from now on so if you need anything done let me know!

Screenprints Continued 2...

And here come the Monsters and creatures. The colour in the original is not as washed out the bottom is much more blue than it appears here. Lots of weird things happen to your work once you upload it. I also finished one couple of days ago for my dear friend Charlie's birthday card.

Screenprints Continued...

I added more colorful pens and looked at the shapes forming more abstract figures. I think all the hours at work watching Star Trek has influence my unconsciousness.

Screenprints Plus Pen

Olli and I were recycling his off-prints of all his screenprints and we found these lovely colourful prints. He advised me to start drawing over these multicoloured little sheets we made one day for his own project. So I started with my pens and here is the start of this project- Fishes.

Why no updates?

Simple answer- busy and lazy. Olli has been graduating and I've been his personal assistant all this time so it hasn't give me much time with my own work. Also I've been trying to work hard on saving up so I am doing longer hours at work to save up for RCA. I have been deferred so me and Olli ( if everything is going according to plan) will be moving to India in September for the next 6 months. We will be living in Goa and working on a documentary, building a museum/archive and living like a hippy. Lazy because once Olli was done with work we flew to Cyprus where i lazed around on the beach and slept a lot. I have been gathering inspiration online so I might start drawing now. This blog is amazing http://blogdelanine.blogspot.com/ and i wish mine would look like that!
Look out for more work!

Ident Project

I was working at London College of Communication as a producer. So the project is still not ready but this is my quick contribution as alumni for the project. It is too quick and the colours came out wrong on the blog but it gives you an idea. I always imagined it was Mother's Day and the dad and boy are going to see Mom. I have been working on other projects but as it isn't entirely my work I cannot post it yet.

Italy at Easter

Happy Belated Easter!

I spent my holidays in Rome, Italy with my Mom, Brother and Stepdad. It was beautiful weather and i did couple of drawings. One was Monster Park built by a crazy count after his wife died. It was lost in the forest for a hundred years till someone found it and bought it and made it back into a beautiful park. Great place to visit, sit and draw. Then there are some pictures of family memebers and some quick sketches of buildings. During my visit to Monster Park Olli gave me some good news over the phone. I have gotten into Royal College of Art to study MA in Animation. I am so excited about it. And lastly I included my design for an Easter card which I intended to send out but due to me lacking my computer it didn't get sent out.
I'll be posting some more illustration work soon!

My film Jam was at Animated Dreams Festival in November in Estonia and in Berlin in February. Good news is that it will be in Japan at Laputa International Animation Festival during 15.03-11.04. I included a couple of stills and soon it will be on the web to view. http://www.laputa-jp.com/laf/

Mr. Fox is hungry

printing

Olli is about to graduate. He has 9 weeks left and I am helping him out with printing by being his assistant. I started putting paper on the printing base and then moved up to cleaning all the tools till yesterday I was entrusted with cleaning the screen. Here is my sketch of people setting up their screens.

Pub visits

I find drawing easier if I do it in public. I know most people don't but it also makes me stop being so lazy and all the movement around you inspires you to draw. At work we have had pub visits once a month now all over London in different pubs. People go there early afternoon and start drinking, eating and merry making. I sit and draw so here are some examples. First one is from a pub in North London and the other one is Samir and Rory in Greenwich.

Wilton's Music Hall

Emma and I had a lovely day of drawing at Wilton's Music Hall. To be honest it is impossible to find but it is well worth going. From the outside you couldn't tell it used to be one of the grandest music halls in London. It is one of the oldest grand music halls in the world. They had a painting exhibition so we went in and started sketching ourselves. Here are two sketches of the stage but I hadn't drawn for a while so it took me couple of hours to loosen up. Emma talked to everyone who was there and tried to convince the artist to let us see his "secret rooms" which she is obsessed about. In the end she made a deal that was pretty much" I'll show you mine ( Rio Cinema) if you will show me yours ( Wilton's Music Hall)." Sadly, I had to go to work so I don't know if her clever plan worked. They are having an open day at the Hall on the 29th so if you are in London you should definitely go. Look at their website: http://www.wiltons.org.uk/
